DELHI'S MONUMENTS AND TEMPLES

QUTUB MINAR

The Qutub Minar (also spelled Qutab or Qutub), a very tall tower in Delhi, India. Qutub minar is the world's tallest brick slender turret next to a mosque.Construction of qutub minar is started in 1193 under the orders of India's first Muslim ruler Qutb-ud-din Aibak, and the story of the minaret was comes to end in 1386 by Firuz Shah Tughluq.The Qutub Minar is a motivation for the peoples who are working in the field of architecture,it is an examples of Indo-Islamic architecture.It is the most famous place among tourists from various countries.It is located at mehroulli in Delhi.



INDIA GATE

The India Gate is one of the largest war memorials in India among all others. It is situated in the heart of New Delhi(cannought place), India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens. It is a prominent landmark in Delhi and commemorates the members of the erstwhile British Indian Army who lost their lives fighting for the Indian Empire in World War I and the Afghan Wars. Originally, a Statue of King George V had stood under the now-vacant canopy in front of the India Gate, and was removed to Coronation Park with other statues. Following India's independence, India Gate became the site of the Indian Army's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, known as the Amar Jawan Jyoti.On every 26th january a defence parade is conduct at INDIA GATE which shows cultures of every state.

Amar Jawan Jyoti

The Shrine of the Amar Jawan Jyoti Burning in a shrine under the arch of India Gate since 1971 is the Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of the immortal warrior), which marks the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The shrine itself is a black marble cenotaph with a rifle placed on its barrel, crested by a soldier's helmet. Each face of the cenotaph has inscribed in gold the words "Amar Jawan" (Immortal Warrior). This cenotaph is itself placed on an edifice which has on its four corners four torches that are perpetually kept alive. It was unveiled on January 26, 1972 by the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, in the wake of the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Today, it is customary for the President and the Prime Minister, as well as visiting Guests of State, to pay homage at the site on occasions of State ceremonies.


LOTUS TEMPLE

The Bahá'í House of Worship in Delhi(nehru place),India. It is famous in the world as the Lotus Temple because of its flowertype shape. Lotus temple is a Bahá'í House of Worship and also a prominent attraction in Delhi. Construction of lotus temple was completed in 1986 and serves as the Mother Temple of the Indian subcontinent. The lotus temple has won numerous architectural awards. At that time when the second Mughal emperor Humayun
think that he should have his own city,he chooses area of Indraprastha. Humayun was quite a learned person with a better understanding on such matters and so it was certain that the area for his city was chosen cautiously. When his Sher Shah Suri conquer him, he destroyed most of Dinpanah because the city of Humayun was called to make course for his own Delhi Sher Shahi or Shergarh. Incidentally, Humayun was the only emperor among all others in history who built a city in Delhi and did not affix his name on the city – this was typical of Humayun's rather worldly-wise and dreamy character. RED FORT

Emperor Shah Jahan had constructed The Red Fort and the city of Shahjahanabad in 1639 A.D. The Red Fort was basically referred to as "Qila-i-Mubarak", because it was the place where the royal family resides. The layout of the Red Fort was organised to not to abolish and integrate this site with the Salimgarh Fort. The fortified building or town type palace is an important centre of interest or activity of the medieval city of Shahjahanabad. JAAMA MASJID

The Masjid-i Jahan-Numa (an atractive Mosque'), ordinarily known as the Jama Masjid which is situated in Delhi capital of india, is the first in rank 0r important mosque of Old Delhi in India. The jaama masjid is regulated, operated or headed by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan,who had build Taj Mahal,Agra and it was completed by the year 1656 AD, it is the largest and well-known mosque in India. It is situated at a very busy central street or area of Old Delhi,near RED FORT Chandni Chowk.The later name, Jami' Masjid, it is because of the weekly Friday noon congregation prayers of Muslims, which is generally done at a jaama masjid or at any mosque, the "congregational mosque" or "jami' masjid". The capacity of JAAMA MASJID to hold worshippers is up to twenty-five thousand at a particular time.Over 5,000 workers puts their efforts to make this ultimate mosque, which takes a period of six years. The cost incurred to make this ultimate mosque at that time was 10 lakh Rupees.There are several ultimate mosques in Delhi, Agra, Ajmer and Lahore which was built by Shah Jahan.Some part of architecture of JAAMA MASJID is similar to the JAAMA MASJID at Agra for example floorplans, But the Jama Masjid at delhi is the biggest among all others and more impressive of the two. It is situated at Mehrauli, Gurgaon Road, Near Qutub Minar

Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, the biggest gurudwara in Delhi. Many years ago at one time it was the bungalow of Raja Jai Singh Amber of Jaipur.The eighth Sikh Guru Harkishan Dev stayed here for some months in 1664, during his visit to Delhi. The Samovar built in the compound of this gurudwara is supposed to be cursed by the guru and hence, it is held with religion by the sikhs. An art gallery and a hospital is also situated in the compound of gurudwara.
Guru Sahib was called together by the Mughal Emperor, Aurangzeb, on the grievances of his elder brother, Ram Rai. After first the young refused to come to delhi because of security reasons but later he decided to visit Delhi when Raja Jai Singh offered him to take care of his security.




SHEETLA MATA MANDIR

Sheetala Mata Mandir is located at Gurgaon village, a suburb of Gurgaon (Guru Dronacharya's birth place), of Haryana state. The presiding goddess of this temple is Mata Sheetala Devi, which is also well-known to as Shakti Peeth.Mata Sheetala Devi is also known as Bhagat Lalita Maa and Masani Maa. In fact the word Sheetala actually means a disease, smallpox. And it is believed that if this goddess is a appeal with faith, she drive away the disease. This is a Temple which is situated near a pond, this temple witnesses large groups of pilgrims during whole the year, except the month of Shravana (July-August). At the time of March-April months which is known as chaitra here, this place have same appearance as the Kumbh-Mela.A large number of the visitors come for their mundan ceremony ( the first hair cutting ceremony in hindu's) of their children and offer the crop of hair at the offering to a deity of goddess. BIRLA MANDIR

SIS GANJ GURUDWARA


The sis ganj gurudwara is situated near Chandni Chowk, between Jain Mandir and the Town Hall , New Delhi,India.

Gurudwara Sis Ganj, a Sikh pilgrimage, was built on the land where the Mughals in 1675 AD. killed the Sikh Guru Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur because he is persisting in belief.There are nine historic Gurudwaras, combined with important events , which had a great endurability on the history of Punjab and changed it's course and direction. SAFDARJUNG TOMB

Safdarjung Tomb is located near Safdarjung Airport, New Delhi,India.

It represents the last phase of Mughal style of architecture, Safdarjung's Tomb situated in the centre of beautiful garden.Safdarjung Tomb was Built in 1753 by Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula to make the house available to the remains of his father, who was a minister in the Mughal court, the tomb is referred to as the "last flicker in the lamp of Mughal architecture." It shows how the grace and simplicity of the Mughals had been overtaken by decadence. The tomb also has a mosque.

Nawab Shuja-ud-daulah, built that remarkable mosque in the memory of his father Mirza Muqim Abul Mansur Khan, popularly known as Safdarjung (1739-54). Safdarjung was the governor of the province of Awadh under Muhammad Shah (1719-48).
